Knightly’s Parking Garage
Broadway Auto Park
Wichita, Kansas
Client: Owner/Developer Robert Eyster and Michael Ramsey, Bokeh Development
Investment: The $3.6 million project was completed utilizing federal and state Historic Tax Credits.
Converting the 1949 Knightly’s Parking Garage in Wichita to market rate apartments was the idea of owner Michael Ramsey. Shelden Architecture and Spencer Preservation worked to ensure the project successfully balanced preservation requirements with the owner’s vision to provide forty + unique and trendy apartments for young professionals.
Recessing the front and side walls of the apartment enclosures into the garage allowed the project to retain its historic appearance of a parking garage. Unique features include garage cabinets in the kitchen and backdoor parking – a rarity in city center living. You literally drive up one of the spiral ramps and park at the back of your apartment. Each apartment is a shotgun layout with individual patios at the front overlooking Broadway.
